Paul A. Serini, JD

President and Chief Executive Officer

     Paul A. Serini is a 1980 honors graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park. He received his juris doctor (JD) degree from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America in 1983, where he continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member and lecturer.

     Serini has over 35 years of healthcare and law experience. Starting his career on Wall Street, Serini later became a partner at the Venable Law Firm in Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD, and subsequently a founder and senior executive of multiple healthcare operating companies and a Washington, DC-based health policy consulting firm.

    Most recently Serini co-founded and served as Executive Vice President of XLHealth Corporation, a $2.5 billion Baltimore-based Medicare Advantage insurance plan focused on improving clinical care and reducing wasteful spending on chronically ill seniors.

   After XLHealth was acquired by United Health Group in 2011 (for $2.4 billion), Serini served as Chief of Government Relations & Health Policy for United Healthcare’s Medicare & Retirement division, until retiring in early 2013 to pursue blue water sailing, private investing and asset management, and a personal passion for philanthropy through The Helen J. Serini Foundation, a private non-profit organization focused on children’s issues and healthcare.

 

   Paul has three wonderful grown children and a grandson, and currently divide his time between Annapolis Maryland and the British Virgin Islands.

Lisa M. Clark

Vice President of Operations & Asset Management

   While working with healthcare corporations such as HelixHealth (now MedStar, one of the largest hospital networks in the nation), Lisa acquired 24 years of experience with marketing & graphic design, strategic planning, business development, and project management. 

 

      For nearly a decade in Y2000, Lisa served the executive office of XLHealth Corporation in Baltimore as an executive administrator and assistant secretary to the board of directors, and played an integral role in one of the largest healthcare mergers & acquisitions in the nation.

 

    After the UnitedHealthGroup acquisition in 2011, Ms. Clark continued to fulfill the role of project manager of government relations & health policy for UnitedHealthCare’s Medicare & Retirement division until leaving in 2013 to oversee daily activities and operations for SFPE.  Lisa also fulfills duties as vice president of SFP's private investment arm, SFP Capital Partners and serves as executive director and ex-officio board member of the Helen J. Serini Foundation, a private, grant-making, nonprofit arm of the Serini family office.

     Lisa loves animal of all kinds, and when not volunteering for the Baltimore Humane Society or playing with her own fur-children, she enjoys swimming, kayaking, ping pong, 

badminton, watching Netflix binge-worthy TV series, baking, and drinking hard cider.  Presently living in Glyndon, Maryland with her family, two dogs, and five independently-tanked piranhas,  Lisa hopes to retire someday to create and live on a farm with pet chickens, goats, potbelly pigs, and miniature horses, where she will foster homeless French Bulldogs and Boston Terriers (and probably any other animal seeking food, shelter, and love.)  

Kerry A. McHugh

Director

     Kerry was born & raised in Annapolis, MD, land of crabs and Old Bay. She attended New York University and received a B.A. in History with minors in Sociology and English Literature in 2008.   Kerry's professional background began in marketing, working first with a niche publisher of military history titles and then for an advertising agency serving non-profit and government clients. 

 

    Presently, Kerry spends the majority of her work day serving as the Helen J. Serini Foundation's chief program officer. She is also a member and officer of the HJSF board of directors, fulfilling the role of secretary.   Kerry is the membership co-chair for the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club, and a member of Exponent Philanthropy's board of directors.  When not in her office, you will find Kerry at various nonprofit seminars and events across the coast as a frequent panelist, speaker, and attendee.

      An avid reader and frequent marathon runner, Kerry, and her husband currently reside in Frederick with their son, blind pit bull rescue, Indy, and curious feline, Po.
